AASHTO, NSBA Publish New Steel Bridge Guide Specification

The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials and the National Steel Bridge Alliance are jointly publishing a new steel bridge guide specification; one developed to establish and define the minimum requirements for the transportation, handling, and erection of steel bridge components as well as the quality and value in the completed bridge structure.
The organizations said their new Steel Bridge Collaboration Guide S10.1/Steel Bridge Erection Guide Specification aims to outline the duties and responsibilities of contractors, design engineers, inspectors, among others for providing the proper safety and construction contract documents. and the execution of erection plans.
AASHTO noted that updates to this guide will be provided for better consistency with current AASHTO and ASTM documents. Additionally, updated formatting will allow for better citation of sections within the document, the organization said.

James Buchanan Eads, an internationally renowned inventor and civil engineer, died at the age of 66 while vacationing in the Bahamas. Eads had been born in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, in 1820.
