The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials has released the second of three 2020 updates to its Standard Specifications for Transportation Materials and Methods of Sampling and Testing, 40th Edition, commonly referred to as the “Materials Standards” guide.

The Materials Standards guide contains specifications, test methods, and provisional standards commonly used in the construction of highway facilities and are updated three times per year – in April, June, and July.

The June update includes two new and 29 revised materials standards that are explained in a summary document available by clicking here. The previous April update included eight new and 18 revised materials standards as well as revisions to the following sections: Hydraulic Cement and Lime; Fresh Concrete; Hardened Concrete; Pavement Measurement; Bridge and Pavement Preservation; and Quality Assurance and Environmental.

The 2020 edition of the Materials Standards includes several new enhancements designed to provide customers with increased accessibility and an improved user experience, such as the guide’s transition from a web-based format to an enhanced PDF Download format as well as its availability in paperback format.
