The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials has appointed Shawn Smith, senior project manager with the Maine Department of Transportation, to a two-year term as the vice chair for its Committee on Construction.

A 30-year veteran of the Maine DOT, Smithโ€™s career experience spans highway reconstruction, pavement preservation, and bridge repair activity to recruitment and retention activities as well as managing the stateโ€™s capital interstate system projects.

Within the Committee on Construction, Smith currently serves as vice chair of the Roadways and Structures Technical Subcommittee and serves as a Region 1 representative on the Joint Technical Committee on electronic engineering standards.
