
The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials Council on Rail Transportation is turning its 2020 annual meeting into an all-virtual event October 5-6.

The virtual meeting will cover a wide array of freight and passenger rail issues, including safety, transportation efficiency, federal policymaking, and state DOT rail planning requirements.
Keynote speakers for the two-day virtual meeting include Joseph Giulietti – commission of the Connecticut Department of Transportation and the rail council’s chair – as well as Brandye Hendrickson, AASHTO’s deputy director, and Quintin Kendall, deputy administrator for the Federal Railroad Administration.

January 15, 1970: An Aviation Innovator Completes His Life’s Journey
William Thomas Piper, Sr., an aircraft manufacturer and businessman who left an indelible imprint on the aviation industry, died in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, at the age of 89. During the course of his long career, Piper had become widely known as the “Henry Ford of aviation.”
