Since the beginning of 2020, thousands of wildfires burned millions of acres and destroyed thousands of structures across California – fires that also contributed to the death of more than 20 people.

Road crews with the California Department of Transportation have been working side by side with emergency responders for months to mitigate fire threats and keep roadways open and operating safely.

In this State DOT’s Best video, Caltrans shows how their employees are playing a critical role not only in the battle to contain and put out those wildfires, but recover from the destruction left in their wake.
