The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials has published a new fabricated structural steel guidebook in collaboration with the National Steel Bridge Alliance.
Entitled Shop Detail Drawing Review/Approval Guidelines for Fabricated Structural Steel, G1.1-2020, it presents guidelines on the preparation, review, and approval of bridge fabrication shop detail drawings and is intended for use with other applicable AASHTO-NSBA Steel Bridge Collaboration documents.
This new publication also attempts to standardize review and approval processes in order to achieve better consistency. The guidelines represent a consensus on best practices that, if employed, will produce quality drawings in an efficient and economical manner.
AASHTO and NSBA work together to develop specifications, codes, standards, and policies in an effort to unify the existing diverse requirements governing steel bridge construction and all AASHTO-NSBA Steel Bridge Collaboration publications are available to download, free of charge, from the online AASHTO Store.
