The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials recently released the second edition of its Transportation Asset Management Guide: A Focus on Implementation.

AASHTO said the purpose of this 324-page guide is to further the understanding of asset management techniques and advance its practices among transportation agencies. The guide also aims to encourage transportation agencies to address “strategic questions” as they confront the task of managing the surface transportation system.

Drawn from both national and international knowledge and experience, the second edition of the guide also provides guidance to state departments of transportation decision makers to assist them in realizing the most from financial resources, preserving highway assets, and providing the service expected by customers.

While the target audience for the guide is primarily state DOTs, local agencies managing metropolitan, county, or mixed transportation networks will also find it useful and appropriate to their needs.

This fully revised edition is divided into two parts: “Part One” focuses on leadership, goal, and objective setting practices, while “Part Two” is more technically orientated.

Complementing this edition is an online platform, http://www.tam-portal.com, which includes access to a searchable database of publications, as well as the how-to guides, checklists, videos, and examples that are included in the guide.

The guide is available for purchase as a PDF download via the AASHTO Store or by clicking here.
