The agenda for AASHTO’s 2021 virtual spring meeting will cover a wide array of transportation and infrastructure topics.
On May 11 a panel featuring Victoria Sheehan, AASHTO’s 2020-2021 president and commissioner of the New Hampshire DOT, and moderated by Shawn Wilson, AASHTO’s 2020-2021 vice president and secretary of the Louisiana DOTD, will discuss how transportation investments provide economic benefits and quality of life improvements.
On May 12, a panel of state DOT executives will explore the challenge of hiring and training a diverse and skilled transportation workforce, as well as strategies for holding onto the workers already employed by state DOTs.
That discussion will also touch on the roles race, equity, diversity, and inclusion play in the overall approach to workforce development within the transportation sector today.
AASHTO will also host a series of knowledge sessions over the course of its five-day 2021 spring meeting. Those sessions will delve into a variety of topics, from improving multimodal mobility and access via infrastructure investments and assessing the true value of inland and deep-water ports to transportation workforce readiness and how best to support diversity equity and inclusion in the transportation workplace.
